Experience one of the world’s great mountain-hunting adventures with a professionally guided Marco Polo hunt in Kyrgyzstan.

The remote Tian Shan Mountains offer vast alpine valleys, open high-altitude terrain, spectacular scenery, and exceptional opportunities to pursue mature argali in their natural habitat.

For serious hunters, this is more than a trophy hunt. It is a true mountain expedition combining horseback travel, long-range glassing, challenging stalks, and authentic Central Asian wilderness.

Why Hunt Marco Polo in
Kyrgyzstan?

Kyrgyzstan is one of Central Asia’s premier mountain hunting destinations.

Hunters can expect:

  • Large and remote hunting territories
  • Experienced local guides and horsemen
  • Authentic spot-and-stalk hunting
  • Excellent trophy potential
  • Spectacular Tian Shan scenery
  • Opportunities to combine the hunt with Mid-Asian Ibex
  • Traditional Kyrgyz hospitality

The Marco Polo Ram

The Marco Polo sheep (Ovis ammon polii) is one of the most famous argali subspecies in the world.

Mature rams are known for their impressive spiral horns, strong bodies, and ability to survive in harsh high-altitude environments.

Finding a mature ram requires patience and extensive glassing. Once a suitable animal is located, the guide evaluates the terrain, wind, animal movement, and best approach before beginning the stalk.

Hunting Area & Method

Our hunts take place in remote areas of the Tian Shan Mountains, typically at elevations of approximately 3,500–4,500 meters.

The terrain includes open alpine valleys, mountain plateaus, rocky ridges, and high passes ideal for long-distance observation.

Hunting is primarily conducted by spot-and-stalk, with travel by vehicle, horseback, and on foot depending on the terrain.

A typical hunting day includes:

  • Early morning departures
  • Horseback or vehicle access
  • Long-range glassing
  • Trophy evaluation
  • Carefully planned stalks
  • Mountain hiking when required

Hunters should arrive comfortable with their rifle and prepared for realistic mountain shooting conditions.

Marco Polo & Mid-Asian
Ibex Combination Hunt

Many hunters choose to combine their Marco Polo hunt with a Mid-Asian Ibex hunt.

A combination hunt offers the opportunity to pursue two iconic Central Asian trophies during one expedition, making excellent use of international travel time while adding variety to the mountain hunting experience.

Accommodation

Depending on the hunting area and season, accommodation may include:

  • Heated hunting camps
  • Mountain cabins
  • Traditional yurts
  • Mobile spike camps

Meals are prepared by the camp team, and the goal is to provide a comfortable base while preserving the authentic character of a remote mountain expedition.

Physical Preparation

Marco Polo hunting takes place at high elevations and requires reasonable fitness.

We recommend cardiovascular training, hiking, leg and core strengthening, and regular walking on uneven terrain before the trip.

Good preparation makes the hunt more comfortable and increases your ability to take advantage of opportunities in the mountains.
